Know what the engine is doing before it tells you the hard way. Boost, oil pressure, coolant and transmission temperature, air-fuel ratio, voltage and speed — plus senders, pods, panels and wiring, from AutoMeter, Crown Automotive, Ridetech and more.

Three gauges cover most of the risk on a modified vehicle. Coolant temperature warns first on a hard climb or a heavy tow. Transmission temperature is the one that quietly destroys automatics, and factory dashboards very often do not show it at all. Oil pressure tells you about bearing condition long before a noise does.

Mounting is worth planning before ordering. A pillar pod puts a gauge in your line of sight without drilling the dash; a panel or cluster suits three or more; and every electric gauge needs a switched feed, a ground and a sender location that can actually be reached with the engine in the vehicle.

Decide what you need to see before deciding where to put it. Readings come from gauges and monitoring fed by senders and sensors — the sender is the half people forget to order. Dedicated readouts are tachometers and speedometers, with shift lights for a shift you cannot afford to watch for. Mounting is gauge pods, panels and mounts.
