Rust repair is the main reason these are bought in Canada, and it is worth understanding what you are buying. A patch panel replaces only the corroded section and demands cutting and welding to a sound edge; a full panel costs more and gives a better result on a vehicle that has rusted through in several places. Neither works over active corrosion — the repair has to reach clean metal or it returns.

Most panels arrive in bare or EDP-primed steel and need priming, sealing and painting to survive. Budget for the seam sealer and cavity wax as part of the job: an unsealed repair panel in a salt province rusts from the inside within a few winters.
