Wiring is where accessory installs quietly fail. A lamp, compressor or winch drawing current through an undersized feed produces heat, voltage drop and eventually a fault that looks like a failed accessory. A relay harness lets a small switch control a large load properly, with the current path running short and fused rather than through the dash.

Three habits prevent most of it: fuse at the power source rather than at the device, protect any wire that crosses sheet metal with a grommet or loom, and put the ground on clean bare metal. A poor ground causes more intermittent electrical faults than any other single mistake.
