F-150 Towing Accessories: Baseplate, Tow Flaps and Hook Covers
Share
This guide is for Ford F-150 owners looking at towing accessories. The parts titled for the F-150 here do three jobs: a Blue Ox baseplate for towing the F-150 itself behind a motorhome, Cloud-Rider tow flaps that hang behind the truck, and Recon covers for the tow hooks. Pick the job first, then match your model year to the title.
What to check first on your F-150
- Model year. Year is what separates these parts. The baseplate is titled 2021-2026, the two tow flaps are titled 2015-2020 and 2023-2026, and the tow hook covers are titled 2015-2025.
- The gap in the tow flap years. Neither Cloud-Rider title covers a 2021 or 2022 F-150. If you own one of those years, use the vehicle selector rather than ordering either flap.
- Trim. These titles name no trims, inclusions or exclusions. The product page lists the exact years and configurations, so read it before ordering for a special-edition truck.
- Flat towing. If you plan to tow the truck four wheels down, check your owner's manual for whether and how your F-150 can be towed that way, and check your province's rules for towed vehicles.
Three kinds of towing accessory
Baseplate. A tow bar baseplate is the bracket that mounts to the front of the vehicle being towed; the tow bar from the motorhome connects to it. It is one piece of a flat-tow setup, so read the product page for what comes with it and what you need alongside it.
Tow flap. A tow flap is a wide flap that hangs behind the rear wheels, between the truck and whatever it is pulling, to catch stones and spray thrown up by the tires. On Canadian winter roads that spray carries slush and salt.
Tow hook covers. These are covers for the truck's tow hooks, sold by colour.
Blue Ox baseplate, 2021-2026 F-150
The Blue Ox Tow Bar Baseplate, 21-26 F150 is titled for the 2021-2026 F-150. That is the only baseplate titled for the F-150 in this guide, so owners of earlier trucks should use the vehicle selector. The Blue Ox brand page has the rest of the line.
Cloud-Rider tow flaps by year
- Cloud-Rider Advantage Stainless Tow Flap, 15-20 F150: titled for the 2015-2020 F-150.
- Cloud-Rider Advantage Stainless Tow Flap, 23-26 F150: titled for the 2023-2026 F-150.
Both are the Advantage Stainless flap; the year in the title is the difference. Check the product page for how it mounts and what is in the box. The Cloud-Rider brand page has more from the maker.
Recon tow hook covers, 2015-2025 F-150
Recon titles the same tow hook covers for the 2015-2025 F-150 in five colours. The years are identical across the set, so the choice is the colour:
- Recon Black Tow Hook Covers, 15-25 F150
- Recon White Tow Hook Covers, 15-25 F150
- Recon Yellow Tow Hook Covers, 15-25 F150
- Recon Blue Tow Hook Covers, 15-25 F150
- Recon Red Tow Hook Covers, 15-25 F150
Black keeps a low profile; white, yellow, blue and red stand out against a dark bumper. The Recon brand page has the rest of the line.
Shopping by truck
Browse Towing Accessories for the whole category. Each product page lists the years, makes and models it fits; use the vehicle selector to confirm your exact year and configuration. Parts are priced in Canadian dollars and ship across Canada.
If your F-150 is the vehicle doing the towing, hitches, brake controllers and wiring are covered in Towing Basics: Hitches, Brake Controllers and Wiring.
FAQ

Can I flat tow my F-150 behind a motorhome?
Check your owner's manual for whether and how your truck can be towed four wheels down, and check your province's rules for towed vehicles. The baseplate is only the mount on the truck; the product page lists what it includes.
