Two things dominate failures here, and both are cheap next to the parts they protect. Heat degrades automatic transmission fluid sharply above roughly 220°F and the damage accumulates rather than announcing itself, so a cooler is the single highest-value addition to a truck that tows. Fluid specification is the other: modern automatics are calibrated for one fluid type, and substituting causes shift complaints that read like mechanical faults.

On a lifted vehicle the transfer case output angle changes with ride height, which is what puts a vibration into the driveline at speed. That is corrected with a shim, a spacer or a corrected crossmember rather than with a new driveshaft.
