A tailgate assist is the most-used part in this list. Modern tailgates are heavy, and a damper slows the drop so the gate does not slam itself — or your hand — on the way down, and makes lifting it closed a one-arm job. It also stops the hinge and cable wear that comes from a gate dropping under its own weight several times a day.

Seals and gap covers matter for anyone hauling loose material. The gap between bed and tailgate lets sand, gravel and sawdust out onto the road, and a seal kit also keeps rain out of a covered bed. Check whether your tailgate carries a camera or lock actuator before replacing a handle.
