The rocker panel is the strip below the doors, and on a Canadian vehicle it is the first structural steel to rust through. Road salt in slush thrown up by the front tires sits in that seam all winter, and the perforation that follows is a common reason a mechanically sound vehicle fails inspection.

Protection here is preventive, so fit it before the damage rather than over it — a guard bonded over existing corrosion traps moisture and accelerates what it was meant to stop. Clean the panel, treat any surface rust, then protect. Slip-on and bolt-on guards suit different vehicles; on a trail vehicle the same area is what a rock slider is protecting.
