Fitting and technology are separate questions. The fitting must match the socket; the technology has to suit the housing behind it. An LED bulb in a housing designed around a halogen filament puts the light source in the wrong place for the reflector, which scatters light and creates glare instead of reach. In a marker or interior lamp, where there is no beam pattern to ruin, LED is a straightforward upgrade.
Two things to check on a modern vehicle. The lower current draw of an LED can register as a burnt-out bulb or cause hyper-flash on indicators, which a resistor or decoder resolves; and any bulb fitted to a forward road lamp must keep the assembly's certification valid.
