A rock slider is not a side step that looks tough. It is a structural member bolted or welded to frame points, designed to carry the entire weight of the vehicle when it is pivoting on a rock, and to protect the rocker panel and the door sills from an impact that would otherwise fold them. A nerf bar in the same position bends and takes the mounting points with it.
Check how it mounts. Frame-mounted sliders transfer load into structure designed for it; body-mounted bars do not, however similar they look. Weld-on versions are stronger and permanent; bolt-on versions using existing frame holes are the practical choice for most vehicles and are removable.
