Recovery gear is bought as a system or not at all. A winch without rated shackles, a tree-saver strap and a way to anchor is a winch you cannot safely use, and the weak point in a recovery is always the fitting rather than the rope. Kinetic ropes and snatch straps store energy deliberately and must be paired with rated recovery points — never a tow ball, never a factory tie-down loop.
Protection is cheaper than repair. Skid plates take the impact that otherwise reaches an oil pan or a transfer case, and rock sliders carry the vehicle's weight on a rock so the rocker panel does not.
Build for the failure you will actually have. Getting unstuck is winches and recovery gear with air compressors and tire inflation to air back up. Protecting the underside is skid plates and armour and rock sliders, which take a hit that would otherwise land on a sill. Carrying it all is roof racks and carriers and fuel and water storage. Longer trips draw on overlanding and camp gear, and Jeeps have their own in tops, doors and body.
