Beam pattern is the decision, not length. A spot pattern concentrates light at distance and leaves the verges dark; a flood fills the near field and reflects badly in snow and dust; a combination bar does both across its length and is what most vehicles want. Length changes coverage, not reach.
Fit the bar for the driving you do. A roof-mounted bar reaches furthest but bounces glare off your own hood in falling snow; a bumper or lower-mounted bar keeps the light below your eyeline. Every bar you fit for road use needs a switched, fused, relay-driven feed and must be aimed and covered to stay legal on the highway.
