Toughen up the outside, or put it back the way it was. Fender flares, bug shields, grilles, mirrors, mud flaps, body panels and exterior trim — brands including Covercraft Industries LLC, Putco, Air Hawk.

Some of this is protection and some is repair. Fender flares cover the tire a wider stance now exposes, and in much of Canada that coverage is a legal requirement rather than a styling choice. Mud flaps and rocker protection take the stone chips that turn into rust perforation four winters later. Bug shields and hood protection do the same job for the leading edge of the hood.

Fit tolerance matters more out here than almost anywhere else on the vehicle, because every panel gap is visible from three metres away. Paint-matched and pre-textured parts save a step; unfinished parts give a better result if you are painting the vehicle anyway.
