A replacement bumper changes three things at once: approach or departure angle, recovery capability, and weight. The weight is the one most often underestimated — a steel front bumper with a winch can add well over a hundred kilograms ahead of the axle, which sags the front springs and changes the ride unless the suspension is rated for it. Aluminum costs more and gives most of the protection at a fraction of the mass.

Check what the bumper is designed to carry. A winch-ready bumper is built around a specific mounting pattern and motor clearance, and recovery points welded into the frame horns are rated to be pulled on in a way a factory tie-down loop never was.
