TRANSMISSION SKID PLATE | 05-23 TACOMA | STEEL BLACK POWDER COAT

Tacoma Skid Plates: Front, Transmission, Transfer Case, Differential

This guide is for Toyota Tacoma owners who want to protect the underside on trails, gravel and logging roads. Decide which part you want covered (front, transmission, transfer case or rear differential), then match the plate to your generation, your trim and, for the transfer case, your exhaust.

What to check first on your Tacoma

  • Generation. The RCI Offroad transmission and transfer case plates are titled 05-23 Tacoma; the rear differential plates are titled 16-23. The DV8 Offroad and ICON plates are titled for the 2024+ and 2024-2026 Tacoma.
  • Trim (2016-2023 rear differential). One plate names the SR5 and TRD Sport, the other the TRD Offroad and TRD Pro.
  • Exhaust (transfer case). RCI Offroad lists Stock Exhaust and RE-Route Modification versions.
  • Material. The RCI Offroad titles state steel or aluminum; the transmission plate here is steel with a black powder coat.

What a skid plate does

A skid plate is a plate bolted beneath the vehicle that shields a vulnerable underbody part, such as the engine, transmission, transfer case, fuel tank or differential, from rocks and obstacles. On a Tacoma the plates below are sold one area at a time, so you can start with the part your driving puts closest to the ground and add the rest later. Spring break-up and washboard gravel roads are good reminders of which parts sit lowest.

RCI Offroad rear differential plates, 2016-2023

Both cover the rear differential. The difference is the trim each title names, so check yours before ordering.

FAQ

Why are there two RCI Offroad rear differential plates for the 2016-2023 Tacoma?

RCI Offroad titles them by trim: one for the 16-23 Tacoma SR5 and TRD Sport, the other for the 16-23 Tacoma TRD Offroad and TRD Pro. Order the one whose title names your trim.

What do Stock Exhaust and RE-Route Modification mean on the transfer case plates?

They are two versions of the RCI Offroad transfer case plate for the 05-23 Tacoma, named for the exhaust setup underneath. If your exhaust is factory, the Stock Exhaust version is the one the title describes; for the other, check the product page.

Do the 05-23 Tacoma plates fit the 2024 and newer Tacoma?

No title in this guide for the 05-23 plates names 2024 or later. For the 2024+ Tacoma, look at the DV8 Offroad front plate and the ICON transmission plate, and the 2024-2026 vehicle page.

Can I buy one skid plate at a time?

Yes. Each plate here is its own listing for one area: front, transmission, transfer case or rear differential. You can start with the part your driving puts closest to the ground and add the rest later.
