GMC Sierra 2500 HD and 3500 HD Tonneau Covers: How to Choose

This guide is for owners of a GMC Sierra 2500 HD or 3500 HD choosing a tonneau cover. A tonneau cover closes over the open cargo box of a pickup to hide and shelter what is carried inside. Settle your model year, bed length and bed type first; then choose how you want the cover to open.

What to check first on a Sierra HD

• Model year. The covers named below are titled either for 2020 and newer trucks or for 2015-2019. Confirm yours on each product page or with the vehicle selector on Truck Bed Covers & Tonneau Covers.
• Bed length. A tonneau cover is cut for one bed length. Several titles here state a 6'9" bed, so know your bed length before you order.
• CarbonPro bed and side storage boxes. Some titles say "without CarbonPro bed" and one says "without factory side storage boxes". If your truck has either, those covers are not listed for it.
• Bed liner and cargo rails. Check whether your truck has a bed liner or cargo rails that change the fit.

Roll-up, folding or retractable

Soft roll-up covers use a tensioned vinyl sheet on a rail system and roll forward to open the bed. Hard folding covers use rigid panels that fold forward in sections and can usually be driven with the panels stacked. Retractable covers roll into a canister at the bulkhead, so the bed can be left fully open without removing the cover. If you open the bed often in winter, picture clearing snow off the cover first, and pick the style that suits how you load.

The TruXedo TruXport Soft Roll-Up Tonneau Cover, 6'9" Bed (273301) carries the same title fitment. TruXedo says it opens from either side of the tailgate, rolls to the cab and secures with integrated safety straps, closes with an automatic slam-latch system, and clamps on in under 30 minutes. BackRack hardware for a rack and a cover together

If you run a BackRack headache rack, the BackRack Low Profile Tonneau Hardware Kit (40124) is titled for 2020+ Silverado/Sierra 2500/3500 HD. BackRack describes its low profile tonneau hardware as the inside-rail adapter that lets a BackRack frame and a low-profile tonneau cover fit the same truck; it is not a cover, so check the product page for which covers it works with. The BAK Industries BAKFlip F1, 6 ft 9 in Bed (772133) is titled for 2020+ Silverado/Sierra 2500/3500 HD. BAK describes an FRP (fiberglass reinforced polymer) top surface over aluminum panels that resists dents, dings and scratches, and says the cover can be folded and locked flipped up to haul large loads.

Retrax covers

The Retrax XR Tonneau Cover, 6'9" Bed (T-60484) is titled for 2020-2026 Chevy Silverado 2500/3500 and GMC Sierra 2500/3500 without the CarbonPro bed. 2015-2019 Sierra 3500

Will a Sierra 1500 tonneau cover fit my Sierra 2500 HD?

Only if its title or fitment table names your HD truck and your bed length. Every cover in this guide is titled for the Sierra 2500/3500 or the 2500/3500 HD; a cover titled only for the 1500 is not listed for an HD truck.

What does "without CarbonPro bed" mean for me?

Covers with that wording are not listed for trucks with the CarbonPro bed. If your Sierra HD has it, look for a title that does not exclude it, or use the vehicle selector.
