Overland gear is bought by weight before anything else. A rooftop tent lives on your roof or rack all season, and the vehicle's roof load rating — set by the manufacturer, usually far lower than the rack's own — governs. Dynamic capacity applies while you drive, a much higher static capacity when parked, which is exactly why a tent can be within one limit and outside the other.

Plan the system rather than the pieces. Tent, awning, rack and brackets need to be chosen together, because a tent from one maker and an awning from another frequently need adapter hardware that costs more than the difference between brands. Weight up high also raises the centre of gravity, which changes how the vehicle handles long before it changes what it can carry.
