The seat is the specification people miss. A lug nut contacts the wheel on a conical, ball or flat seat, and the nut must match the wheel — a conical nut in a ball-seat wheel touches on an edge instead of a face, and it will loosen no matter how accurately it is torqued. Aftermarket wheels frequently need a different nut from the factory one.

Thread size and pitch must match the stud, and length matters: a nut needs full thread engagement, which a spacer or a thicker wheel can quietly reduce. Torque to the vehicle's specification with a wrench rather than an impact gun, and re-check after the first 100 kilometres — new wheels seat and lose torque.
