Regearing is the change that makes larger tires work. Taller tires raise the effective gear ratio, which costs throttle response, shift quality and fuel economy all at once — a numerically higher ratio restores what the tire size took away, and the calculation depends on tire diameter rather than on the lift height.

Traction devices differ in how they behave on the road. A limited-slip biases torque continuously and is transparent in daily driving. A selectable locker ties both axle shafts together only when you switch it on, which is full traction off-road and ordinary manners on-road. An automatic locker needs no switch and does make its presence felt in corners. Ring and pinion work wants a competent installer — backlash and pinion depth are set by measurement, not by feel.
